Disclaimer

Handstoget is a brand of Handstoget LLC. This Disclaimer explains the limits of the information we share. By using our website, guides, kits and courses, you agree to the terms below. Please read it alongside our Terms and Privacy Policy.
1. General
Our guides, template kits, courses and other content are provided for general informational purposes only. They are shared in good faith to help you work on your own home. We make no guarantees that any project, technique or piece of advice will suit your particular property or circumstances.
2. Do the work safely
Repair and building work carries real risk: electric shock, falls, burns, cuts, dust and damage to the structure of your home. You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of anyone in the building while you work. Use the correct protective equipment, isolate power at the consumer unit before touching anything electrical, and never work alone on a job where being alone would make an accident worse.
If at any point a job feels beyond you, stop. That judgement is part of the skill.
3. Know what to leave to a professional
Some work should not be done by an unqualified person, and in many places it is unlawful to do so. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Gas — any work on gas appliances, pipework or flues.
- Mains electrical work — consumer units, new circuits, and anything that must be certified or notified.
- Structural changes — removing or altering load-bearing walls, beams, joists or foundations.
- Asbestos — anything in a property that may contain it, typically pre-2000 construction.
- Roofing and work at height beyond a domestic step ladder.
Our guides do not qualify you to carry out any of the above. Hire a licensed, insured professional.
4. Codes, permits and permission
Building regulations, electrical standards and permit requirements vary by country, state and municipality, and they change over time. Nothing we publish overrides them. Before you start, check what applies where you live, pull the permits you need, and confirm you are allowed to do the work at all — tenants and leaseholders often are not, and unpermitted work can affect your insurance and complicate a future sale.
5. Results may vary
Every building is different. Outcomes depend on the age and construction of your property, the materials available to you, the tools you own, your experience and the condition of what you are working on. Because we cannot inspect your home, we cannot promise a specific result, cost or timing. Treat our timings and materials lists as a well-tested starting point, not a guarantee.
6. No professional certification implied
Our guides, kits and courses are educational content for people who fix their own place. They do not confer any professional qualification, certification, license or accreditation, and they are not a substitute for formal culinary training.
7. External links
Our website and content may include links to third-party websites for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, products or practices. Following an external link is at your own risk, and their terms and privacy policies will apply.
8. Affiliate disclosure
We currently have no paid affiliate relationships; if that changes, we'll disclose it here. We aim to be transparent about how we're compensated for anything we recommend.
9. Contact
